Platform Analysis: Wenick

Wenick is a strong advocate for social values and simultaneously promoting small businesses. This makes him centered as a moderate liberal candidate for president. Armed with his confidence and past career as governor of Florida as well as founder of the charity Hope for Haiti, his platform displays his urge to fix many of America’s problems.

The environment is a major focus of the Wenick campaign, with policies such as preserving funds for the EPA, emphasizing the legislation already passed by the EPA, improving the environment, creating policies to promote using solar, wind, hydroelectric, and other types of green energy, cutting carbon emissions and water use, and creating jobs for people to work in the clean energy economy. Being unsure about what really goes down in the legislation process, Wenick writes that the EPA passes laws about environment just like Congress. If Wenick doesn’t know who does what in government, will he really be the best fit to run the country for four years?

On education, Wenick plans on producing policies that will expand the career pathways available for the youth by providing hands-on learning experiences for them to use in the workforce. Wenick also wants to promote outreach programs that would get students to join charter schools, especially in low-income neighborhoods, so that students can be more successful with longer school hours and three meals a day. At the same time, Wenick wants to provide more funding to public schools, especially in places where charter schools are not needed. Wenick wants to promote STEM outreach programs to help students explore the STEM fields as well as give women more opportunities to work in STEM. Wenick pledges to push Merit-based scholarships at public four-year colleges and universities; under the Wenick administration, community colleges would be tuition-free for families with an annual income of $125,000 or less. Wenick attacks the Common Core for being carried out poorly and wants to create a new curriculum that incorporates experience and discussion based learning.

For healthcare, Wenick supports Obamacare and will keep the basic ideas of it while implementing adjustments to the policy. Wenick plans on making major changes to the ACA periodically while implementing minor adjustments gradually. The Wenick campaign seeks to make outreach programs to encourage young and healthy people to get health insurance. As an incentive, the Wenick campaign is offering these people a discount on their first year of coverage. Wenick believes that healthier and stronger people joining health insurance will lower premiums for people all over the country. Wenick wants to implement tort reform policy that will prevent hospitals from increasing their revenue by over treating patients.Wenick wants to create balance between the economy and Obamacare as he wants Obamacare to stay while also maintaining spending.

In his foreign policy platform, Wenick supports keeping the US active at the UN and NATO in order to work with other countries to solve humanitarian issues and aim for world peace. In Syria, Wenick wants to create “Safe Zones” that will provide relief for refugees that are fleeing from the violence of the Syrian War. Wenick seeks to give aid to people escaping countries at war and to accept more refugees into America. While he acknowledges that there should be careful checks on the refugees, Wenick finds that it is America’s job to help anyone who is escaping terror in their home countries. The Wenick campaign advocates for working with world leaders on the issues of technology in order to fight for cyberspace freedom and to stop radical terrorists such as ISIS from using social media and the internet to promote their ideologies. Wenick wants to use America’s cyberspace specialists to dismantle terrorist actions in the US and around the world. Wenick, as president, would work for peaceful relations with countries such as Russia, China, and North Korea but will also advocate for civil and liberty rights to these countries. Wenick seeks to find compromises and agreements with these countries.

Surprisingly, the Wenick campaign is running a conservative platform for tax reform. Wenick wants to lower business taxes to promote small business growth.  As a believer in the American Dream, Wenick advocates for emphasizing America’s capitalist market and helping small business owners achieve success in order to expand and grow the economy. Wenick wants to make the people in the top 1% pay their share of taxes rather than to benefit from people from the middle and lower classes who are suffering. This is the odd part of the platform where Wenick appears quite liberal rather than conservative. The Wenick campaign wants to remove unnecessary requirements that are involved when people want to start a business so that the process is easier and less expensive. Wenick supports entrepreneurship in young adults as he will let people to defer their student loan payments while they establish a startup.

Wenick’s campaign seems to be a huge mix of ideas ranging from quite conservative to extremely liberal, which may cause confusion or leave voters at odds about placing their trust in someone who seems struggling to find his niche and is scattered across all platform areas. On the other hand, Wenick’s views do seem to be achievable in four years if he wins the presidency. Wenick’s position on the tax reform is concerning as it confuses how the top 1% of the nation do pay a lot of taxes to the federal government already and sidetracks from his position of trying to be conservative on tax reform. This may cause Wenick to lose support from the people from the upper classes in America as well as make owners of large corporations choose not to donate to the Wenick campaign. Also, Wenick does not discuss how he will allocate military spending in regards to defeating ISIS and other terrorist organizations. Wenick may also find it hard to win support from voters of states that have extreme views on political policies such as those states that are very liberal and those that are very conservative.
